Obituary ~ John Franklin Akes
October 02, 1875 ~ May 27, 1929

Leon, Decatur County, Iowa

John Franklin Akes, son of Stephen and Sarah Akes, was born on a farm near Leon, Decatur county, Iowa, October 2, 1875, and died suddenly at his home in Des Moines, Iowa, Monday morning, May 27, 1929, at the age of 53 years, 7 months and 25 days. His early life was spent in and near Leon. He was united in marriage to Fannie Gardner May 7, 1903. To this union were born five children, Lyman Charles, Floyd Gardner, Fred Noble, Dan Raymond and Helen Jane.

Mr. Akes spent the greater part of his life in the piano business. He was a member of the Hysperia Lodge No. 33, Knights of Pythias at Leon. Being of a very friendly desposition, he was always glad to lend a hand to friend or neighbor. He has lived for the past nine years at Des Moines Iowa.

He leaves his wife, the five children, two brothers; Ben Akes of San Francisco, Cal; and W. P. Akes of Leon, Iowa; three sisters: Susie Brown of Decatur, Iowa; Lydia Warner of Bedford, Iowa: Emma Bain of Wayland Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Ola Akes, Thursday afternoon, May 30th at 3:00 p.m.. Rev Luther Kurtz of the Presbyterian church delivered the sermon. Interment in Leon cemetery.
