OBITUARY - RACHEL E. (NOAH) CREES

The subject of this sketch was born in Monroe County, Iowa, September 30, 1856, where she lived for 24 years. She was married to Mr. Joseph R. Crees a well known resident of this county, in the year 1880, and has lived in said county ever since. She died at her home near Grand River, March 29, after a protracted illness of several months of that much dreaded disease, consumption. She leaves a husband, relations and a host of friends to mourn her death.

She was converted at the early age of 14 years and lived a constant Christian life. She died as she lived. The last words she was heard to say were "good-bye, good-bye, I'm going to rest." We need not mourn as those that have no hope. The funeral was largely attended, services being held at the home, conducted by the writer. The remains were laid to rest in the Funktown [a.k.a. Oak Hill] Cemetery to await the coming of the Lord and resurrection of the just.

Dearest loved one we have laid thee,
In the peaceful grave's embrace;
But thy memory will be cherished,
Till we see thy Heavenly face.

Funktown News (same date)

Mrs. Joe Crees who has been very low with consumption died last Thursday night, and was buried in the Funktown Cemetery Saturday morning. She was a noble woman in every respect and was held in high esteem by all who knew her, and will be greatly missed by her many friends who sympathize with her husband and relatives.
