Obituary ~ John Roy Blakesley
September 8, 1893 ~ November 19, 1970

JOHN ROY BLAKESLEY was born on a farm in Decatur County’s Hamilton Township on September 8, 1893, the son of GEORGE and ORPHA POOLE BLAKESLEY, and died at his home in Eden Township on November 19, 1970.

He was baptized into the fellowships of New Salem Baptist Church on June 8, 1913. He served the church actively in many capacities and acted as deacon for 28 years.

He was untied in marriage to CORA MERLE DALE on October 6, 1915. Four children blessed this union. They are: JOSEPHINE, MERVILLE, FREDA and VAENIECE.

He was a farmer and lived his life in Decatur County.

He never recovered from a critical injury on June 24, 1969 and in recent months had seemed to fail gradually, but death came suddenly and without warning.

He is survived by his widow MERLE; and their family, JOSEPHINE and JOHN SHOOK, Leon; MERVILLE and VELMA BLAKESLEY, Williams Bay, Wis.; FREDA and WALKER DAVIS, Des Moines; VAENIECE and LEROY ADAMS, Gallup, N. M.; five grandchildren: MERVILLE, MABLE and MARVIN BLAKESLEY; J. R. SHOOK and MARGARET SHOOK NEILSON; four great grandchildren; brother WALTER, Leon; four sisters, MYRA SPENCER and MERELE POTTER, Leon; PEARL CRAIG, Weldon; and RUBY CRAIG, Cainsville, Mo; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two small brothers, one grandson and an infant granddaughter.
