George W. Dobson, son of Jacob and Phoebe (sic, should be Phebe) Dobson, was born October 19th, 1857 in Clinton County, Iowa, and passed away January 28, 1938, at the home of his nephew, Virgil Brown in Ellston, Iowa. He came to Decatur County when a small lad with his parents and has lived in this vicinity since.
On April 6th, 1902, he was married to Margaret Duggan, and to this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Winnie Allard of Leon, Ia. A step-daughter, Mrs. Hettie Gibson, also survives him. A brother, Charles Alexander, and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Miller, have preceded him in death. His remaining relatives are his brothers, W. Dobson, of South Dakota, Frank Dobson of Ellston and John Dobson of Grand River; His sisters, Mrs. Catherine Brown and Mrs. Joe Crees of Grand River, also three grandchildren, and six step grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews who have shown him much loving kindness.
When quite young, he became a member of the United Brethren Church and has remained in that faith.
He and his brother, John, have had their home together in Grand River since the death of his wife, and his familiar face and kindly greeting will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church [Grand River] Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. Cecil Latta with E.C. Lamoree in charge. He was laid to rest in the Oak Hill cemetery.
