Cecil Jennings, age 85 of Leon, Iowa, the son of Ira and Mary (Jennings) Jennings, was born May 3, 1928 at Lineville, Iowa. He died at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa on Friday, August 16, 2013.

Joe, as he was known, enlisted into the United States Army Air Force in June of 1946. He was honorable discharged in January 1947. He married Nola Ann Maycomber, to this union ten children were born. On March 3, 2004 in Princeton, Missouri, Joe married his companion of 36 years, Lois Jeffrey. Her children became part of his family, too.

Over the years, Joe worked at Voltmaster in Corydon, Iowa, on the I-35 bridge construction crew, Pester Derby gas station, City of Leon, the WRD Landfill, and finally the Lamoni Rest Area for the past 13 years, up until the time he entered the hospital. In his free time, Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, mushrooming, and berry picking. He loved the outdoors and camping. He also loved all little children. He always had a smile for everyone.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son Cecil; brothers, Max, Kenneth, Johnny, James, and William; step-daughter Melody Jeffrey; great grandson Peyton; sisters-in-law, Wanda Jennings and Betty Jennings; nephew Ronald Jennings, and son-in-law Rick Cummings.

Survivors include his wife Lois Jeffrey of Leon; children, William Jennings of Florida, Bev & Mark Anderson of Boone, Iowa, Karen & Junior Stansbury of Loveland, Colorado, Dennis Jennings & Kim of Carroll, Iowa, Valerie Jennings of Jefferson, Iowa, Carol Jennings & Jeff of Boone, Diane Laird & Frank of Madrid, Iowa, Jerald Jennings of Ogden, Iowa, and Randy & Jan Jennings of Ogden; step-children, Terry & Kathy Lively of Polk City, Iowa, Garry & Lisa Jeffrey of Morrison, Colorado, Michael & Linda Pierson of Garwin, Iowa, and Randy & Tonya Pierson of Leon; 46 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; siblings, Gerald Jennings of Quartzsite, Arizona, Robert & Thelma Jennings of Allerton, Iowa, Clarence & Mary Jennings of Pella, Iowa, Wayne & Lynn Jennings of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Jimmy & Judy Jennings of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Carol Dean & Marjorie Jennings of Rosedale, California, Edward Jennings & Nellie of Allerton, and Larry & Pat Jennings of Corydon; sister-in-law Anne Marie Jennings of Montgomery, Minnesota; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 1 p.m. On Tuesday, August 20, 2013 with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery in Decatur, Iowa privately at a later date.
