Train No. 76, engine 2ll stalled on the grade
west of Murray at 7:45
a.m. Wednesday morning. The train was cut in
two sections and the first
section taken to Murray and switched into the
side track. The engine
then started to back its way west to haul in
the remainder of its
train. As it reached the west corporation
line where a main road north
and south crosses the tracks, the engine
struck the horses and wagon,
mangling and killing both horses and breaking
the wagon in two. Three
persons who were in the wagon, FRANK WILSON,
LEE TABLER and HERMAN
PRICE, were thrown out of the wagon; PRICE, a
boy of l5 years, sustained
severe injuries to his back and other parts
of his body. LEE TABLER in
falling, was struck in the head by the step
on the side of the
locomotive, cutting a deep gash in his head
and then running him under
the wheels of the engine. His right arm was
almost smashed into a mass
of blood and broken bones, his side was
bruised and scratched and it is
miraculous that he was not killed.

JOHN FLYNN, an eye-witness to the accident,
immediately went to TABLER's
assistance, the engine was stopped and after
placing the victim in the
cab came at once to the depot. FLYNN was
covered with blood. Dr.
Forney the company surgeon was sent for and
arrived at 9:05. Drs.
Carver and Hasty were already in attendance.
As soon as possible,
TABLER's right arm was amputated above the
elbow. Wednesday afternoon
he was still alive and the surgeons think he
may recover.
FRANK WILSON who was driving excaped without
a scratch.

There are many different opinions regarding
the cause of the accident.
