(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa June 20, 2012)

JACK ARLO PERKINS ... Jack Arlo Perkins, age 88 of Humeston, Iowa, the son of Aaron Hensley Perkins and Hattie Margaret [Selby] Perkins, was born February 19, 1924 in Decatur County, Iowa. He died at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa on Thursday, June 14, 2012.

Jack attended country school near Woodland, Iowa. On June 26, 1949 he married Betty Louise Smith in Humeston. In 1951 they moved to their farm south of LeRoy, Iowa where they raised their two daughters, Barbara and Beverly. The family then bought a farm northeast of LeRoy. In 1980 Jack and Betty built a home in Humeston.

Jack worked on the farm his whole life. He had a love of cattle and all animals. Jack's favorite word on the farm was "suu-calf." He used this to get the cows up to feed them. Jack kept his tractors "clean as a whistle." Besides farming, Jack's other enjoyment and pride was keeping his yard mowed, free of weeds, and in meticulous shape.

Jack also liked going to the salebarn and spending time at Vandell Automotive. He often rode in the wrecker with Tracey. Jack had a sweet tooth and always had his Mike & Ike's.

Betty, Jack, Barbara, and Beverly were all baptized together at the LeRoy Presbyterian Church when Jack was a young man. He was a member of that congregation the remainder of his life.

Preceding Jack in death wee his parents; 8 brothers and sisters: Lucy, Goldie, Cleva, Duane, Gerald, Adeane, Kirk, and infants Sylvia and Mauntie David, and his beloved wife Betty Perkins on April 9, 2008.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Vandell and husband Tracey and Beverly Auxier and husband Steve, all of Humeston; grandchildren: Mickie and Junior Leer, Rich and Christine Auxier, Missy and Tim Myers, all of Humeston, and Angie and Dustin Mathews of Osceola, Iowa; 8 great grandsons: Cody, Austin, Brett, Reece, Shay, Aydan, Gage, and Bryse; brother-in-law Dick Smith and wife Jessie Mae of Indianola, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
