OBITUARY ~ IVA BRIGGAMAN SMITH

Iva Viola, daughter of Bernard Augustus and Ida Viola HEMMELERICH BRIGGAMAN, was born Feb. 17, 1892 at Leon, Decatur Co. Iowa. Her mother died at this time.

Iva died Oct. 1, 1983 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she had lived for over forty years. She was a rural school teacher near Leon and in Kellerton, Iowa school. Here she met and married Herald A. SMITH on April 11, 1919 at Kansas City, Mo. Herald died Oct. 16, 1959.

Three sons and a daughter blessed their home. Surviving to cherish her memory are sons, George W. and wife Marie, and Herald A., Jr., and wife Miriam of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rex and wife Mildred of Cedar Rapids and Fort Smith, Arkansas; Beverly Jane and husband, Rev. Richard CARFRAE of Boulder, Colorado; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. All were in attendance.

There had been no death in their immediate family.

Iva was an accomplished pianist, singer and homemaker.

Services were at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. Officiating were Rev. Richard CARFRAE, assisted by Rev. Phillip L. HOUGEN. Soloist was Douglas CARFRAE of California.

Pallbearers were grandsons; Cal Bruce CARFRAE, Richard D. SMITH, John M. SMITH and Rex A. SMITH, Jr. Interment was in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery beside her husband and same plot as her twin sister, Ida Violet DEAL and sister Mabel BRIGGAMAN.
