Death Notice -

NICKELL, Maxine Lucille, 80, of Clio, Iowa, died June 21, 2006 at the Mercy Capital Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services were held June 24 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville with Rev. Jesse Jackson officiating. Burial was in the Clio, Iowa Cemetery.

MAXINE NICKELL ... Maxine Lucille Nickell, daughter of Earl Henry and Grace Beatrice (Davis) Ellis, was born June 18, 1926, in Decatur County, Iowa, northwest of Lineville, in her grandparents' home, and passed away on June 21, 2006 at the Mercy Capital Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 80 years.

Maxine was united in marriage to Calvin Lee Nickell on October 17, 1943. Calvin preceded her in death on February 9, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Velma Tampa; two brothers, Rex and Clarence Ellis; and by an infant brother and infant sister. She is survived by her daughter, Dianna Johnson and husband John of Clio; two sons, Garry Nickell and wife Viola of Lineville, and Ardys Nickell and wife Wanda of Allerton; eight grandchildren, Mike, Greg, and Kevin Nickell, Cynthia Comer, De Etta Houk, Angie Koeneck, John C. Johnson, and Penny Kilber; twenty-three great grandchildren; three brothers, Max Ellis of Davis City, Darrell Ellis of Creston, and Robert Davis of Grand River, and by other relatives and friends.

Maxine attended the rural schools of Elm, White Oak, and Pioneer, and Leon, Iowa, High School. She worked as a cook at Nick's Restaurant at the Highway 2 and 65 junction north of Lineville, the Corral Restaurant in Corydon, and at the Lineville Senior Citizen's Center for over 20 years as cook and site supervisor. She was a very active and loyal member of the Lineville Assembly of God Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for 38 years.

Maxine dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who were all the pride of her life.
