DEATH NOTICE:

FLYNN, Jerry Neal, 68, of Winterset, Iowa, died on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at his home. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on February 6, 2012 at Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. Interment was held in the Springtown Cemetery in rural Winterset, Iowa.

JERRY NEAL FLYNN ... Jerry Neal Flynn, 68, of Winterset, Iowa passed away February 1, 2012 at his home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Jerry was born January 12, 1944 on a farm near Leon, Iowa to Martin and Lena Fleming Flynn. He grew up in the Leon Area where he attended rural grade school and graduated from Leon High School with the class of 1962.

After graduating, Jerry moved to Des Moines and it was here he met Marilyn Baker. They were united in marriage on December 31, 1966 in Leon and together they became the proud parents of two children, Jill and Derek who passed away as an infant. This marriage later ended in divorce. Jerry joined the National Guard and served for 10 years before being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Jerry lived in Des Mines and Waukee before making his home on an acreage outside of the Winterset area. He was employed at the Meredith Publishing Group in Des Moines as a Pressman before retiring after 30 years of service.

After retiring, Jerry worked at Des Moines Asphalt and then part-time for Farm Services in Winterset. For many years, Jerry was active in Field Trials, traveling throughout the United States with his German Shorthairs and judging many of the competitions. Jerry enjoyed being active within the Madison County area and was a member of the Master Gardener's Association and a 4-H leader for several years. He was also a proud member of the National Rifle Association. Jerry enjoyed living on his farm, working with his horses and dogs, gardening, canoeing trips, hunting, and spending quality time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Lena Flynn and one infant son, Derek.

Jerry leaves behind, his daughter, Jill Gronwold and her husband Tracy of Earlham; two special grandsons, Jesse and Casey Reed, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
