WAYNE WESLEY OWENS ... Wayne Wesley Owens, age 78 of Leon, Iowa, son of David Wesley and Lucille Elvia [Wasson] Owens, was born January 18, 1933 in Leon. Wayne died November 19, 2011 at the V.A. Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, with his family surrounding him.

Wayne grew up and attended school in Leon. He served in the United States Army, during the Korean War, from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. Wayne married Shirley Ann Beavers on June 11, 1957 in Leon. Two children, daughter Marilyn Elizabeth and son Anthony Ray, were born to them. The family made their home in Leon.

In earlier years, Wayne worked construction. He was employed with the city of Leon from 1971 until his retirement in 1995. Wayne was with the Street Department and drove a maintainer. Wayne was a hard worker and good provider for his family.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing cards, feeding and watching the birds, and raising hunting dogs. Wayne liked all animals, from his pet coyote "Susie" to his beloved puggle Rosie.

Wayne loved his family and was a wonderful husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa, who had a good sense of humor. He enjoyed baby sitting the grandchildren and having all the grand kids and great grand kids around.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Shirley's parents, Newell and Nellie Beavers; brother Riley Owens; brother-in-law Jimmy Beavers; and sister-in-law Christine Beavers.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Shirley Owens of Leon; daughter Marilyn Lane and husband Pat of Leon; son Andy Owens and wife Linda of Leon; grandchildren Heather Elizabeth Ann Lane and Dustin Wesley Bradley Lane of Leon; great grandchildren Jaden James, Deacon Dane, and Tiras Tate; step-grandchildren Angela Hookman and Tracy Judd and husband Dave of Leon; step-great grandchildren: Matt, Vanessa, Kendra, Elijah, and Deanna; brothers Loren Owens and wife Joann and Marion Owens and wife Jean, all of Indianola, Iowa; sister-in-law Linda Owens of Leon; brothers-in-law Max Beavers and wife Betty of Colfax, Iowa and Johnny Beavers of Knox City, Texas; sister-in-law Delores Beavers Clements of Columbia, Missouri; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
