(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa October 26, 2011)

OSCAR JAMES "Jim" BUCY, Jr., son of Oscar James and Verda May [Hembry] Bucy, was born November 21, 1924 in Terre Haute (Decatur County), Iowa and died October 21, 2011 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 86 years.

Jim grew up in the Terre Haute area and attended Lamoni schools. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was in the Military Police in the Philippines and Hawaiian Islands. After his honorable discharge, Jim studied agriculture at Iowa State University for two years.

Jim married Juleen Eleanor Herrington on November 11, 1950 in California. They made their home in California for 14 years, where Jim worked at American Can Company, and on Saturn 5 at the Aerojet Space Center.

Four children were born to Jim and Juleen: Renee Eileen, Myron James, Derrick John, and Darrell Joseph. The family moved back to Iowa in 1964, where Jim farmed south of Grand River. Jim really enjoyed his years of farming, retiring with Juleen to Osceola, Iowa in 1986. They managed the Super 8 Motel in Osceola, and Jim worked at Jimmy Dean through Pinkerton Security.

Jim was an active member of Farm Bureau, and he and Juleen took many trips with Farm Bureau friends. He helped with the Grand River Rodeo over the years and housed the stock horses on his farm. Jim liked bowling and got to appear on the television show "Let's Go Bowling" in earlier years. Jim and Juleen also enjoyed square dancing and playing cribbage, and Jim liked to go fishing. Jim especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents; wife Juleen in 1995; and sister Neva Smith.

Surviving are his children: Renee Pulley and husband Larry of Shenandoah, Iowa, Myron Bucy and wife Candice of Loveland, Colorado, Derrick Bucy and wife Kelli of Red Oak, Iowa, and Darrell Bucy and wife Marilyn of Osceola; 14 grandchildren: Alice, Evelyn, Lisa, Craig, Jennifer, Michelle, Joshua, Hayley, Damon, Lindsay, Lacey, Melanie, Amy, and Chris; 19 great grandchildren; sister Marie St. Clair and husband Bill of Grandview, Missouri and Juanita Palmer of Kansas City, Missouri; brother Wayne Bucy and wife Bonnie of Florida; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
