LURA DEAN FULLER ... Lura Dean Fuller, formerly of Elgin, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2005 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa.

She was born April 29, 1920 in Elgin, KS to Fred M. and Nora Julia [VanDemark] Fralick. She grew up in Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School in 1937. She attended Coffeyville Junior College and taught school at Moore Prairie and Elgin.

In October 1944, Lura enlisted in the Women's Army Air Corps where she taught map reading and organization of the Army at the Basic Training Center in Des Moines. On July 19, 1946, she was honorably discharged from the Army Air corps. She then returned to school at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

She married Claude C. Fuller on June 20, 1948 in Elgin where they made their home and owned and operated a service station from 1949-1972. They also owned land and cattle during this time until their retirement.

She was a member of the Elgin United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, 4-H Club Community and Project Leader for 17 years, EHU, United Methodist Women, and served 16 years on the Board of Education.

Lura Dean moved to Leon to live with her son and family in 204. She attended Loving Chapel United Methodist Church. She loved attending sporting events and visiting with all the nice people in the community and church.

Survivors include one son, David Fuller and wife Darlene, Leon, and two daughters, Lura Scott and husband Doug of Plano, Texas, and Nora Bane and husband Leon of Elgin, Kansas; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, and two brothers.

Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Elgin Untied Methodist Church with burial in the Elgin Cemetery.
