LADISLAUS MADARASZ, a former prominent
resident of Decatur County, died
on November 6th, at his home in Goodhope,
Mo., at the age of 98 years.

LADISLAUS, MADARASZ settled in Decatur
County in l85l on Government land
in Garden Grove Township where he made his
home for many years. He was
born near Buda Pesth, Hungary, September
22, l8ll. His parents were
GIDEON and SOPHIA MADARASZ, also natives
of Hungary. He received a
splendid education in his native country
and held many high offices. He
was for thirty years Secretary of State,
and was one of a committee of
three to adjust matters of state, an
office similar in nature to the
President's cabinet in this country. The
other members of that
committee were KOSSUTH and NYARY.

In l834, he was united in marriage to
BARONESS ELIZABETH MAYTHENY, a
native of Hungary also. They had one
child, who was christened
WILLIAM. MRS. MADARASZ died in Hungary in
l843. MR. MADARASZ came to
America in l85l and to Decatur County at
once where he located. He was
married to his second wife, SIBILA
OSOLOCK, born in Germany in l836, in
this county. Seven children were born to
them. After coming to Decatur
County, MR. MADARASZ entered a claim and
later added to his holdings of
land by purchase until he owned a large
farm. He first built a small
dwelling house in which the family lived
for fifteen years. He then
built a fine farm house in which he made
his home until he left Decatur
County.

Several of his children became highly
efficient teachers and were
engaged in educational work for many
years. He was 98 years, one month,
and fifteen days old at the time of his
death. He leaves a wife and six
children, seven grandchildren and two
great grandchildren to mourn his
departure.
