BONNIE VIRGENE HOUCK ... Bonnie Virgene Houck, age 78 of Grand River, Iowa, the daughter of Garel Wayne and Frances Elna [Bohn] Evans, was born November 4, 1931 at Grand River, Iowa. She died at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa on Friday, September 3, 2010.

Bonnie graduated from Grand River High School in 1949. On November 26, 1949 she married Deral Dean "Slim" Houck. They were blessed with two daughters, Cheryl and Jeanne. The family lived on a farm southeast of Grand River until 1959 when they moved to Leon. They moved back to Grand River in 1978. Slim was deputy sheriff and Bonnie was bookkeeper at a car dealership and Woodie Wooderson's Elevator in Leon before she started at the Decatur County Hospital, which is where she worked until retirement.

Bonnie and Slim enjoyed traveling around the country, especially Minnesota while the girls were young and to Texas later in life. In her free time Bonnie enjoyed enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, playing pinochle, and following the Iowa Hawkeyes in football and basketball and the Braves baseball team. She was a member of the Grand River Legion Auxiliary. Bonnie was a loving grandma who always had time to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a devoted wife to Slim and she lovingly cared for him after his stroke in 2000 until he passed away on September 7, 2005.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Slim Houck; brothers-in-law, Richard Street, Jack Howard, and Dick Brown.

Survivors include her two daughters, Cheryl Flatness and husband Mike of Rockwell, Iowa and Jeanne Boyd and husband Terry of Leon; four grandchildren, Tom & Nicole Storey of Olathe, Kansas, Chelsey Storey and friend Chris Morrison of Urbandale, Iowa, Amy & Charley Burch of Maryville, Missouri, and Holly & Josh Hysell of Corydon, Iowa; step grandchildren, Phillip & Megan Flatness and Chris & Jenny Flatness, all of Mason City, Iowa; great grandchildren, Trevor and Ryan Storey, Micael and Levin Burch, and Ty and Ella Hysell; sisters, Donnal Brown of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Eileen Howard of Des Moines, Iowa; brothers, Ralph & Billie Evans of Lamoni, Iowa and Rodney & Anne Evans of Harrison, Arkansas; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
