DEATH NOTICE:

McCLURE, DONALD WARD, 70, of Van Wert, Iowa, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa. Visitation was held Monday, July 26, 2010 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa. Burial was at Van Wert Cemetery, in Van Wert Iowa. Memorial may be given to his family for a memorial to be decided at a later date.

DONALD WARD McCLURE ... Donald Ward McClure, age 70, son of Ward E. McClure, was born December 4, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was called home to be with the Lord, July 22, 2010 surrounded by his family at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. Don grew up in the Highland Park area of Des Moines and graduated from Saydel High School in 1958. On November 17, 1961, Don was united in marriage to Gloria G. Gilbert. When Don met Gloria, he found his home and was embraced by the Gilbert family. Don and Gloria had three daughters bless this union - Donna Deleth, Dana Deneen and Dyan Denise. Don spent nearly 50 years in Van Wert with the Gilbert family whom he sincerely loved. To Don, Glen Gilbert was the brother he never had.

At the age of 19, Don started working for John Deere Des Moines Works in Ankeny and retired in 1989 at the age of 49. After retirement, Don and Gloria enjoyed doing "crafts" for several years and up until his death still loved working in his shop making his treasures birdhouses.

Over the years, Don enjoyed camping, fishing, playing his drums in the band, traveling, working in his ship, taking meticulous care of his yard, attending the events of his children and grandchildren, but especially dancing with his beloved wife.

Preceding Don in death wee his in-laws, Elmer and Lorene Gilbert; and his father, Ward McClure.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years and 9 months, Gloria McClure; daughters, Deleth (Kurt) Halvorsen, Dana (Matt) Roemer, Dyan (Brad) Holterhaus; grandchildren, Alisha and Tanner Halvorsen, Samantha and Sarah Roemer, Tara and Taylor Holterhaus; "brother", Glen (Shirley) Gilbert; sisters-in-law, Connie (Gail) Clausen, Karen (Gary Allard) Defenbaugh; brother-in-law, Kenny (Juanita) Gilbert; as well as a host of other family friends.
