JAMES LAFOLETTE ... James Marley Lafolette, son of Emmett and Alta [Marrs] Lafolette, was born near Saline in Mercer County on July 2, 1889, and passed away on Feb 15, 1993, at the home of his son, Donald, Northwest of Princeton, at the age of 93 years.

Jim was united in marriage to Winnie May Johnson on Feb. 12, 1921, in Leon, Iowa. Winnie preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 1990. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and three grandchildren, Danny, Gary and Pam.

He is survived by his five sons, Donald of Princeton, Doyle of Bridewell, Calif., Vernon of Comanche, Iowa, Gary of Omaha, Neb., and James Morris Lafolette, of Alma, Ark.; and by his 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Jim's mother died when he was 6-years old, and he was raised by his mother's family until age 12. He then was raised to manhood by his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Osborn.

Jim worked as a farmer, a Star Route Mail Carrier, a farm manager, the custodian at the Decatur County Courthouse in Leon, Iowa, and was employed for seven years at Mt. Arbor Nurseries. He and Winnie moved to Princeton in 1973 and lived in the Hal England Apartments. For the past two years, Jim has made his home with his eldest son, Donald.

Jim was a member of the Assembly of God Faith, and attended the Princeton Assembly of God Church when he lived in Princeton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton with the Rev. Howard Leasure officiating. Burial will be in the Freedom Cemetery, northwest of Princeton.

There is no formal family visitation. Open visitation and viewing will begin at 8 a.m. Friday morning at the funeral home.
