DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa March 3, 2010)

QUIGLEY, L. LeRoy, Jr., 73, of Des Moines, Iowa, died February 27, 2010 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation is open after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, with the family greeting friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with Rev. Larry Owens officiating. Burial will be at Leon Cemetery, with Military Honors by the U.S. Air Force-Iowa Air National Guard 132nd Fighter Wing of Des Moines.

L. LeROY QUIGLEY, JR. ... Lester LeRoy Quigley, Jr., age 73 of Des Moines, Iowa, son of Lester LeRoy and Ruby May [Tilford] Quigley, was born March 2, 1936 in Davis City, Iowa and died February 27, 2010 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

LeRoy Graduated from Leon High School in 1954. He married Katherin Elsberry on August 9, 1958 in Leon, and three children were born to them: Karla Lea, Randall LeRoy, and Richard Wayne.

LeRoy served in the U.S. Army for three years, and the retired from the U.S. Air Force-Iowa Air National Guard after 29 years of service. LeRoy retired as a Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force-Iowa Air National Guard. He was a veteran of the Korean War. LeRoy was a certified welder for Massey Ferguson and later a boiler engineer for Des Moines Public Schools.

Trough their 51 years of marriage, Leroy and Kathy made their home in Leon, Decatur, and Des Moines. LeRoy enjoyed gardening and tinkering with his tractors. he was an expert on small engines. He liked harassing his grandchildren and great grandchildren. LeRoy reminded people, "they made them though in '36."

Preceding LeRoy in death were his father Lester Quigley; mother Ruby Tilford; brother Raymond Lee Quigley; sister Roberta Jean Wion; and great grandson Hunter William Johnson.

Surviving are his wife Kathy Quigley of Des Mones; daughter Karla Comstock and husband Barry, son Randall Quigley, and son Richard Quigley and wife Elena, all of Des Moines; 5 grandchildren: Tori Johnson and Husband Rob of Des Moines, Brandy Horton and Husband Brad of Prairie City, Iowa, Nicholas Johnston and wife Jennifer of Indianola, Iowa, Rachel Quigley of Des Moines, and Grant Scott and wife Kate of West Des Moines; 7 great grandchildren: Alexa Johnson, Caleb Horton, Drew Horton, Ava Scott, Keygun Johnson, Kaden Johnston, and Landon Johnson; sister Kay Owens and husband Bill of Cabot, Arkansas; Kathy's family; and other relatives and many friends.
