DEATH NOTICE:

RICHARDS, Robert D., 87, of Geneseo, Illinois, died Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the Geneseo Samaritan Village. A funeral mass was held August 14 at the St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo, with Rev. Michael Pakula officiating. Burial was in the Oak Wood Cemetery, Geneseo, with military honors by Geneseo VFW Post #5083. Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, was in charge of arrangements.

ROBERT D. RICHARDS ... Robert D. Richards, 87, of Geneseo, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 208 at the Geneseo Samaritan Village.

Robert was born on October 19, 1920 in Garden Grove, Iowa, the son of Pearl and Clara Leonard Richards. He was a 1939 graduated of the Garden Grove High School and Central College of Pella, Iowa. Robert then served his country in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific Theatre on board the LST from 1942-1946.

He was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Frost on September 16, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa. Robert then enrolled and graduated from the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, Illinois. He then started his Chiropractic business in Chicago as Dr. Richards Chiropractor for over 40 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the St. Malachy's Catholic Church, the American Legion, and was a former member and past president of the Englewood, Illinois Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed playing tennis and following the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He as well loved to watch and help his children with their sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret; one daughter and spouse, Jan (Gary) Zum Mallen, Geneseo, IL; two sons and spouses, Ron (Jackie) Richards, Longmont, CO, Doug (Enid) Richards, Ouray, CO; 4 grandchildren, April (Kareem) Williams, Dillon (Maren) Richards, Ricky and Ryan Zum Mallen; great granddaughter, Lily Richards; a sister, Dorothy Carroll, Marion, Iowa; brothers, Marion, St. Louis, MO, Kenneth, Marietta, CA, Larry, Jamaica, IA, and Gary, Urbandale, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and one sister.
