MORRIS SAXTON BENEFIEL was born in Vermillion County, Illinois, May 27, 1856
and died at his home in Leon, November 7, 1912, being at the time of his
death 56 years, 5 months and 11 days of age.

At the age of two and one-half years he moved with his parents to Jones
County, Iowa, where he spent some of his early life. In 1870 his parents
moved to a farm in Decatur County and since that year, the deceased has been
a resident of the county. At the age of 16, and while living on the farm
near Elk Creek he sustained injuries that resulted in his being crippled.
Since that time he has been compelled to use crutches in walking until about
two years ago, when he was compelled to use an invalid chair.

On December 6, 1888, he was united in marriage to ANNA GARRETT and moved to
Leon, which has been his home ever since, with the exception of about two
years spent in Humeston and one year in Garden Grove. In 1889 his mother
died and two years later he was bereft of his father. During the time of
his residence in Leon he was associated with a number of business interests
a greater part being devoted to the restaurant profession.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, two brothers, two sisters and
many other relatives and friends. His last illness was of seven weeks
duration, yet he was cheerful and patient to the last.

Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon, November 8th, at 3
o'clock, conducted by Rev. Chas. W. Reeder. The remains were placed in the
Leon Cemetery, followed there by a large concourse of relatives and friends
to pay their last respects. Peace to his ashes.
