MARY JANE BEERS MCKEE, daughter of PETER and MARY BEERS, was born June 12,
1837, at Richmond, Indiana, and died at her home near Grand River, Iowa, Feb
16, 1910, aged 72 years, 8 months and 4 days. She, with her parents, moved
to Burlington, Iowa, in 1841, where they remained until the year 1854, when
they moved to Decatur County, where she resided the rest of her life. She
was married to W.S. MCKEE Jan. 10, 1857. There were twelve children born to
this home, six of whom, with the father, preceded her to the world beyond.
In her youth she became a Christian, and when 14 years of age united with
the Methodist Episcopal Church, she remained a faithful servant of the Lord
all her life. Her last words to her children were full of comfort and hope,
which will not be forgotten by any who heard them. With a complete
surrender unto God and an implicit faith in her Savior, she passed away in
great peace.

The funeral services were conducted by the pastor, W.C. Smith at the
residence Friday, Feb. 18 and the body was laid to rest in the Woodard
Cemetery.

The six remaining children are JOHN MCKEE, Miss FANNIE MCKEE and Mrs. T.S.
HEMBRY, of this place, and Mrs. I.W. WEST, of DeKalb; CLINT MCKEE of Kansas
City, and Mrs. W.A. POUSH, of Leon; also an adopted son, FRED VAN LAAR, of
Plainview, South Dakota. There are five grandchildren - WILL WEST, of Iowa
city; VIRGINIA WEST, of Leon; VERA MCKEE, of this place, CLIFTON WEST, of
DeKalb and ELMA LEONE POUSH, of Leon.
