DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa October 28, 2009)

AKES, Myra Marilyn, 88, of Nampa, Idaho, formerly of Leon, Iowa, died October 21, 2009 at a local care center in Nampa. Funeral services were held at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel October 24. The body was sent to Leon, Iowa for services at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home on Friday, October 29 and burial following in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the Accent Hospice in Nampa, Idaho in Myra's memory.

MYRA MARILYN AKES ... Myra Marilyn Akes, age 88 of Nampa, Idaho and formerly Leon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at a local care center. Myra was born May 25, 1921 in Breda, Iowa to John and Paula [Schaefer] Bohnenkamp.

Myra attended Catholic school in Breda for nine years. Her father died when she was nine years old; five years later her mother married a good man with two daughters, making a family of ten children. They moved to a farm near Leon, where Myra finished her education. She met her one and only, Willard Martin Akes. After graduation in May, they were married in July of 1938. They had one son, Willard John Akes.

Myra worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Scott in Leon for eight years. In 1957, they moved to Mountain Home, Idaho where Willard worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company. Myra worked at several different jobs. She was a teacher's aide in the Nampa High School for four years before retiring at age 62. She was a member of Nampa's St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Willard on April 8, 1992; four brothers; four sisters; and two-step sisters. Survivors include her son, John Akes and wife Mildred, two grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, all of High Point, North Carolina; and other relatives and many good friends.
