FREDA VIOLA ADAMS ... Freda Viola Adams, age 95 of Grand River, Iowa, the daughter of John Clarence and Laura Lucretia [Wadsworth] Taylor, was born November 19, 1913 at Grand River. She died at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center in Mount Ayr, Iowa on Saturday, October 17, 2009.
Freda grew up and attended school in Grand River. She was a tomboy among four brothers. She rode a milk cow to and from the pasture every morning and night. There was much love and many happy times in their home.
In November 1931 Freda married Russell Raymond Adams at Bethany, Missouri. They were baptized into the United Methodist Church together in the Grand River in 1932. They were blessed with one daughter, Laura, and her husband, Ed, who they considered a son. They farmed in the Grand River area until selling out and moving into Grand River. Freda was a school cook. In1952 they moved to Newton, Iowa where Freda worked for the May tag Company for over 20 years. After retirement, Freda and Russell spent winter months in Texas and other southern states.
Freda had a special bond with the Taylor nephews. They spent many days, weeks, and even months with Russell and Freda on the farm. Most went on vacation or camping with them. She also loved the Adams nieces and nephews. There were many good times that included Sundays, Holidays, and the whole family getting together.
Freda had many close friends in Grand River. They started the senior meals in town. She loved to fish, be outdoors, garden, camp, bowl, travel, and have family dinners. In 1967 she and her friend Alice, won the senior state bowling tournament. Freda was a charter member of the Grand River American Legion Auxiliary with 56 years of continuous service.
The last few years, Freda made her home at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center. She called it home and the people there were her family too, as well as great care givers.
