Decatur County Journal
Leon, Iowa
Thursday, October 31, 1912

This community was saddened beyond measure on last Friday morning to learn
by telephone that HAL WRIGHT, the eldest son of Mr. And Mrs. E.G. WRIGHT,
formerly of this place, had passed away at the home of his parents in
Chariton the evening before. HAL was born at Lineville and was a few months
past 17 years of age, and until his parents moved away four years ago his
home was here. The immediate cause of his death was pneumonia, but he had
suffered from tuberculosis of the lungs prior.

In company with his mother he visited Lineville about September 1st, and on
their return to Chariton he went on a visit to his uncle and aunt, Mr. And
Mrs. M.E. GAMMILL, of Kit Carson County, Colorado, in hopes that the change
of climate would benefit his health, but after three weeks he became worse
and returned home, accompanied by his aunt, Mrs. GAMMILL. They arrived at
Chariton Wednesday of last week. Dr. I.M. Lovett, of this place, who had
been their family physician while the family resided here, was called on
Thursday and immediately drove to Chariton in his car, but found on his
arrival that HAL was past all earthly aid and his death occurred about 8 o
clock that evening. The remains were brought here on Saturday afternoon
accompanied by the sorrowing family and the funeral was held at the M.E.
Church south, services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Whitworth, of
this place. The funeral service was preached by Rev. Osman, pastor of the
First Presbyterian Church of Chariton, who accompanied the bereaved family
here and the interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery. A very large
concourse of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends attended the
service.

HAL's untimely death, just as he reached the threshold of a bright and
promising manhood, filled every heart with deepest sorrow. He was of a most
genial and companionable nature, popular and respected by all who knew him,
and in the wide world it is believed he left not a single enemy. His fond
parents and family, so sadly bereft, have the heartfelt sympathy of all in
their sorrow and loss.
