this life August 14, 1912, aged 17 years, 10 months and 12 days. Although
having been in poor health for some time it was not thought that the end was
near. She had just returned from Des Moines, Friday evening where Mr. And
Mrs. GRIFFIN had taken her to consult a specialist, who told them she was in
no immediate danger and asked that she be kept in the open air as much as
possible. She was just preparing to go for a drive with her father when she
was suddenly stricken on Saturday afternoon and despite all that loving
hands and skilled physicians could do passed away on the Wednesday followingHAZEL was a member of the class of 1912 of the Grand River High School
graduating with the highest honors and was eagerly planning to continue her
education at St. Joseph's Seminary and later at the State University, that
she might be fitted for the widest possible fields of life's usefulness.
But such was not to be. Her work was not to be of this world. The Great

well spent years. She was a brilliant student, an accomplished reader,
loved and esteemed by schoolmates and teachers. Her character was of the
purest and sweetest. Her faith was built upon the Rock against even which
the ravages of death cannot prevail.A loving father and mother, one brother, HOMER, two sisters, HELENE and
GUSSIE, seven classmates, many other relatives and a host of friends are
left to mourn her departure. The funeral services were held at the family residence in Grand River on
Friday morning at 8 o'clock by Rev. Fr. J.C. White. The remains were then
brought to Leon, where they were met by Rev. Fr. J.P. McGillan, of Chariton,
and interment followed in the Catholic Cemetery. Many and beautiful were the floral offerings received for the fair young
girl. Those in attendance at the services from a distance were Mr. And Mrs. Chas.
Edwards and daughter, from Osceola, Ia.l, Mrs. J.C. Rockhold, Mrs. Geo.
Murphy and Mr. Y.B. Wasson, of Lineville, Ia., Mrs. C.H. Brewer, of Allerton
