JACOB P. MARTIN, son of JACOB and SUSANNAH MARTIN, was born in Ohio, Feb. 25, l849. The family moved to Iowa in l858, coming to a place five miles north of Leon, although at that time the town was scarcely begun. He thus saw Decatur County settled and developed from the earliest days. In l870, he married MISS SALINA J. WOOD, of Leon, and into the homes thus established came five children, one of whom, MRS. JONNIE JOHN, preceded her father in death a number of years ago.

MR. and MRS. MARTIN made their home in and about Leon up to three years ago, when they removed to Davis City. Here, after an illness of but a few hours, he died, having reached at his death, the age of 74 years and 2 days. In his early manhood, MR. MARTIN gave himself to Jesus Christ, uniting with the Methodist Church of Decatur at the time of his death.

His death leaves in bereavement, his widow, four daughters: MRS. CARRIE BRUNER, of Davis City; MRS. CORA SELL, of Leon; MRS. STELLA BEASLEY, of Davis City; and MRS. JOSEPHINE ELWELL, of Leon. Beside these, one sister, MRS. JOHN HENDERSON, of Decatur City, and two half-sisters, MRS. J.R. PUGH, of Pine River, Minn.; and MISS FRANCIS MARTIN, of Leon, survive. As might be expected of one whose life had been identified with almost the entire history of Leon and the community, a very large circle of friends feel his loss.
