DUNCAN CAMPBELL, for many years a resident of Pleasanton, Iowa, and well known to many Decatur County people, died at the home of his son, MACY, in Cedar Falls, March l6, at the age of 76 years.

His death was very sudden, being caused from heart failure. His daughter, JESSIE, had been summoned to Cedar Falls on account of the sickness of her brother. She had eaten supper with her father and talked with him for about an hour, after which he lay down to rest. With scarcely any warning, his heart ceased to beat and he was gone.

We have gleaned a few facts regarding the life of this noble man from the memory of COLUMBUS SCOTT, a life-time friend.

MR. CAMPBELL was educated in Canada for the Baptist Ministry, but during the time of his schooling, he heard and investigated the Gospel as taught by the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He afterwards accepted it and united with the church. He was later ordained an Elder and did extensive missionary work in Michigan. Here it was that he became acquainted with MR. and MRS. SCOTT. During his stay in Michigan, he met and was united in marriage to MISS LIDA HULSE. Soon after his marriage, he moved with his companion to Pleasanton, known as Little River, where he made his home until a few years ago when he went to Cedar Falls to live with his children. MRS. CAMPBELL died while living in Pleasanton.

Elder CAMPBELL was ordained to the office of seventy, some time after he had served faithfully in the office of Elder, and traveled extensively in missionary work. For a number of years he held the office of President of the Seven Presidents of Seventy. He served as a member of the Lamoni stake high council, being chosen when the stake was organized. He also held the office of stake historian until relieved but four or five years ago on account of failing health. His articles are still appearing in the Journal of History.

Deceased leaves two sons, MACY and LEE, and one daughter, JESSIE. Elder CAMPBELL was known as a man of unusual spirituality, always kind and gentle and charitable toward all. Those who were most intimate with him realized it most. In fact these characteristics shone out through his countenance in a marked degree.

At the time of MR. CAMPBELL's death, his son, MACY, with whom he lived, and head of the rural education department of the State Teachers' College, was seriously sick at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls and could not be apprised of his father's death. MRS. MACY CAMPBELL was also at the hospital, having given birth to a daughter a few days before.

The body of MR. CAMPBELL was taken to his old home at Pleasanton for interment.
