PETER CANON WATSABAUGH was born in Cumberland Co., Penn., May 26, l848, and passed away at his home in Humeston, March 7, l922, at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 9 days.

He came with his parents to Iowa in l850 and has since been a resident of this state, living at Leon before coming to Humeston in l9l2.

He became a Christian when but a boy, and had always been faithful and active in theChristian work. He was a member of the Baptist Church for the last thirty years of his life, being a Deacon at the time of his death.

He was married Dec. 25, l870, to MARY WHISLER and to them were born ten children, eight of whom are left, with his wife, to mourn the loss of a faithful husband and father. The children are EVA L, and BERTHA DUNN, of Humeston; IDA SMITH and HARRY, of Jewell; ROY and WALTER, of Center Point; MARIE BEVERLY, of Wichita, Kansas, and GRACE LAZEAR, of Derby, Iowa. All were here for the funeral.

The funeral services were held from the Baptist Church in Humeston, conducted by a former Pastor, Rev. U.G. Miller, of Ft. Madison, and his body was laid to rest in the Humeston Cemetery. Six of his fellow officers of the church acted as pall bearers: G.C. Caldwell, J.M. and Frank Scovel, Frank Gibbs, M.W. Hamilton, and B.A. Helt. A quartet composed of Earnest Miller, J.L. Taylor, Mrs. Jennie Snyder and Miss Thelma Caldwell, sang appropriate hymns. Beautiful floral tributes covered the casket.

He will be greatly missed in home and church.
