WILLIAM H. JENKINS was born in Greencastle, Indiana, September l9, l840, and died at his home in Leon, Iowa, March l8, l922, aged 8l years, 5 months and 28 days.

When but a boy, he came to Decatur County with his parents, and has lived in and near Leon ever since. He was a Veteran of the Civil War, serving a year and a half. In early life he united with the Baptist church of which he remained a zealous member through life.

On February 7, l86l, he was united in marriage to SUSIE SILL. To this union were born eight children, four sons and four daughters. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and three children, the surviving children being CLEM, LESSIE and HARRY JENKINS, of near Leon, MRS. MARY MCCUTCHEON, of Dickinson, North Dakota; and MRS. WENNA MOORE, of Gregory, South Dakota, all of whom were with him during his last illness, giving him every care and attention.

MR. JENKINS was for many years a prominent and highly respected citizen of Leon. He was one of the pioneer brick masons of southern Iowa, and the brick in many of the business blocks in Leon were burned and laid by him.

The children have lost a kind and loving father, and the community one of its most respected citizens. Funeral srvices were held at the home on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H.L. Olmstead, Pastor of the Christian Church, interment being in the Leon Cemetery.
