Weldon ~ History News
By Kathy Mason

Snider Family – Henry G. Snider was born in London, Ohio in 1848. He moved to land owned by his father in 1875. In 1876 he was married to Harriet Mathews, daughter of William T. and Catherine Logan Mathews. William Mathews owned land east of Hebron and donated the land where the cemetery is located. He served as a 1st Lt. in the Iowa Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. The Sniders were parents of 8 children: Grace, John, Elmer, Clarrisa, Thomas, Claude, Maurice and Lorena. Maurice remembered looking out of the window on the Snider farm and watching the railroad being built. Henry Snider died in 1895, but his family continued to live on the farm for many years. His wife later built a home in Weldon. She was active in the Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She died in 1934. John had a new car agency in Weldon for a number of years. John and Maggie had their 50th anniversary. John and Maggie were the parents of 3 children: Rex, Lyle and Marie. All are now deceased.
