Van Wert Youth Was in Battle Against Rommel in Tunisia February 17th

Pfc. Clifford Cox Reported Last Week as Missing,
is a German Prisoner of War, Says Radio Message

Corporal Howard Glendon Parmer of Van Wert has been reported missing in action since the Rommell push in Tunisian, February 17, according to his mother, Mrs. Della Barber, who moved to Fort Des Moines March 1.

Corporal Parmer, who has been in the service for two years, is a graduate of the Decatur high school.

This brings the total of men in our armed forces "missing in action" from Decatur county to nine.

NOTE: Cpl. Howard Glendon Parmer was the son of Elijah and Della (Sissel) Parmer. He was captured in North Africa and held as a prisoner of war from 1943 to 1945. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1945, and returned to Iowa.

According to military records accessed on ancestry.com, Pfc. Clifford Cox served as a rifleman in the infantry. He was captured in the North African Theatre at Tunisia. He was held as a prisoner of war at Stalag 3b, Furstenberg Brandenburg, Germany from February 17, 1943 and was liberated on July 12, 1945.
