CEMETERIES...

Hi All: I finished taking pictures at Elk Cemetery (Bloomington Township)
the other day and decided to head over to the Catholic Cemetery (Woodland
Township).. Again, I didn't have enough pic card to take all the pics in St.
Mary's Catholic Cemetery, so today stopped there and took the remaining pics

While there, Miles & Gladys Leeper came to mow and trim the cemetery.. We
chatted for a while and had an enjoyable time. They also mow the Shields,
Beavers & Lentz cemeteries - and have been doing these 4 cemeteries for many
years.. My next excursion will be in that direction, so will contact them
to get the directions.. Miles told me to get hold of the County Supervisors
to report the cemeteries that are in disrepair and have something done with
them.

I headed on down south R52 to Morgan Township and found the White Oak
Cemetery (after a couple of wrong turns.. duh..) May apples are still out
and lots of Queen Anne's Lace along the roads -- and, remember those old,
old fashioned light yellow iris that all our grandma's had growing
everywhere -- well, they are very prolific in this area, and especially in
the cemetery.. I do have to say that I've smelled enough "S"-manure to last
me for a while... A farmer had taken his loader and spilled lots of it on
the road.. Oh well, smells like 'money' to them...

I then headed on down R52 to Elm Cemetery - about 15 miles south - and just
a short stretch to Lineville. Years ago, we had been there on one of our
trips from Indiana.. I don't remember the story about the 'wheel gate' there
.. but it is still there and only opens a small way if you can't lift it. I
still believe Joshua & Nancy McMurtrey are some of my ancestors - but haven
t made the connection yet..

So, on to scope out Lineville! On the road into town, there is an old,
shabby building with a sign that says 'Rooms' -- and another -- 'Maggie's
tent down at the end'................. hmmm. I was chuckling when I went
by the 'Steel Wheel Saloon', where the motorcycles were all parked.. Wish I
was a man - I'd have stopped for something cool to drink... smile.. I
settled for a bottle of sweet tea at the gas station.

I have another recommendation for things you need if you're going to be
visiting old cemeteries -- A TETANUS SHOT... for rusty gates, rusty wires..
Ticks not too bad today, just a few tried to hop a ride on me.. I don't,
however, like the little red ants that live under the headstones that are
laying on the ground -- had them running up my arms and swarming everywhere.
. Got to remember to pack my Benadryl Stick for itch relief due to bug
bites.. The mosquitoes aren't out yet, thank goodness!! But, alas, they will
be later on - guaranteed!

Just wanted you to know I had another great time locating and walking
Decatur County cemeteries.. Forgot to mention that I also stopped at
Gatliff Cemetery...... Nancee
