WINTERS & METIER CEMETERIES.

Yesterday I gathered up my camera and extra picture card, and headed for
Garden Grove Township.. The directions to the Metier Cemetery are excellent,
right down to exact mileage. I didn't realize that the Winters Cemetery is
on the same road as Metier, so that was a little perk.

Since this is the farmers' early season for getting into the fields with
anhydrous ammonia, manure, etc. I have to say that "Popcorn Road" is very
busy and they don't allow you to 'poke along' and enjoy the scenery (which
is what I do....) I did pull over a couple of times and let them pass so I
could eat their dust!!! Saw a new sorrel quarter horse foal, which was a
real treat -- J.R. and I always enjoyed them as we had quarter horses that
we rode in the mountains in Colorado.. I did notice that the horses aren't
slicking out' yet -- not losing their winter coats. Hmmm, wonder what that
means???

I stopped at the Winters Cemetery and took pictures of all the stones; even
though it's considered an abandoned cemetery, it sits on a hill without
trees and is well taken care of. I've put those pics on the Iowa Gravestone
Project.

Then I went on to Metier Cemetery, which is back off the road and quite a
nice area -- still in use.
So, I started taking pics and realized my camera card was full... (I didn't
delete the pics of McKee the other day after downloading them... so that
took up 62 pics...) So, I put the other camera card in and proceeded to
take over 100 pics there. I am also posting some of them to the Iowa
Gravestone Project... Someone has already posted several pictures, so I'm
filling in the ones that weren't posted.
And, there are several burials that have taken place since the cemetery was
transcribed.

So, after brushing the 'tick' off my pink shirt, I headed back home. I've
said it before, and will say it again, that I love being in these cemeteries
- communing with those who have gone on before me. It is an absolute
privilege... Nancee
