REBECCA J. SCOTT has filed a petition for
divorce from ANDREW G. SCOTT.
The petition states that the parties were
married on Jan. 20, l895, in
Decatur County, and that the plaintiff has
always treated the defendant
as a loving and obedient wife should treat
her husband. That about the
middle of August the defendant informed the
plaintiff he was going to
have his daughter, a MRS. MCGUIRE, come and
live with them, and that the
plaintiff seriously objected to her coming at
the time, as prior to the
time of their marriage, the plaintiff and
defendant agreed that he would
not permit any of his children to live in the
house with them.
That as soon as his daughter moved into the
house with them, she
commenced to treat the plaintiff in a cruel
and inhuman manner, alleging
that she tipped her out of a chair on one
occasion and at another time
tried to throw her down stairs, and
threatened to 'brain' her, and that
either the defendant or his daughter
attempted to poison her. She also
alleges that her husband accused her of being
unchaste, and of
contracting loathsome diseases. That at
night he would sleep with his
head to the foot of the bed and his feet in
the plaintiff's face, and in
midsummer would pile a comfort and surplus
clothes on the plaintiff and
try to smother her. The defendant is the
owner of 220 acres of land and
a house and two lots in Davis City and other
property worth a total of
$7,800 and his indebtedness will not exceed
$l,000.
She asks for a decree of divorce and alimony
in the sum of $2,800, and
that she be restored to her former name,

Towner ordered an attachment in the sum of
$l,500 issued against
defendant's property. Harvey & Parrish,
appear as attorneys for
plaintiff.
