MRS. R.A. CROFT went to Chariton Monday for a
short visit before going
to her home at Halsey, Neb. She will return
to Leon in a few weeks to
spend the summer with her daughter, MRS. DR.
VAN WERDEN, who has not
recovered the use of her right arm since her
illness.

'TAL' CURRY, of Eagleville, Mo., and 'VETE'
CURRY, of Franklin Township,
were both in Garden Grove yesterday, while
here, the guests of MR. and
MRS. JOS. CULVER. They went down and spent
the day with their old
pioneer neighbor and friend, MRS. H. CHASE,
of High point Township. --

MR. JNO. F. LANDES returned on Thursday from
Grand River where he had
been spending a few days with his brother
J.M. LANDES, who is very ill,
suffering from a cancer of the stomach. MR.
LANDES was accompanied home
by two nephews, WALTER and JOHN LANDES, of
Kirksville, Mo. who had been
visiting their father.

M. FOLAND, of Grand River, was in Leon
yesterday, paying his taxes and
attending to other business matters. He made
our office a pleasant
call, and in the course of the conversation
we learned that although he
is in his 76th year, this winter is the first
time he has ever carried a
cane. The past winter he has been suffering
considerably with
rheumatism.

JAMES LEONARD and little daughter returned
last week from Cripple Creek,
Colorado, and will spend a couple of months
in this county. MR. LEONARD
brought back with him about a bushel of
specimens of gold and silver
ore, some of it very rich. He has a half
interest in two l0 acre
claims, and a third interest in a 40 acre
claim a mile and a half north
of Cripple Creek, which he is very confident
will pan out rich some of
these days.

MRS. H.D. HARRELL, of Bethany, has been
visiting her father, NELSON
GARDNER the past week. She was taken
seriously sick the latter part of
last week and MR. HARRELL came up Saturday
and took her home Monday. It
seemed rather natural to see HIRAM on our
streets again.
