Thursday, April 26th, was the golden wedding
day of two of Decatur
County's oldest and most honored citizens,
MR. and MRS. ENOS DAVIS, of
Garden Grove Township. Their children
conceived the idea of giving the
worthy couple a happy surprise and
accordingly issued invitations to
relatives and friends, about eighty of whom
gladly responded, and by
noon of the perfect spring day, the DAVIS
homestead was the scene of
such joyous activity as only an occasion
presided over by love and good
will can create. The surprise was complete,
the old folks not having an
intimation of what was in progress till the
first of the guests began to
arrive; but if one might judge of their
feelings by the affectionate
greetings they accorded their guests and the
gratified smiles worn by
their good faces all day, the surprise was
indeed a happy one.

The picnic dinner which embraced every
substantial and delicacy
obtainable known to the palate of civilized
man, from roast turkey to
ice cream, was spread on a long table in the
pretty yard and the guests
gathered round and remained standing while
Rev. Robert Beer in
felicitous and touching manner made the
presentation speech which
conveyed to the happy couple many handsome
tokens of regard from the
friends assembled, among which were a gold
watch for the groom and gold
bowed spectacles for the bride.

MR. DAVIS responded in a few well chosen
words and then the guests were
seated, and to the music of nature's
orchestra, assembled in the trees
overhead, enjoyed an hour of chat and good
cheer. The afternoon hours
were spent in the renewal of old acquaintance
and the forming of
pleasant new ones till the time of separation
came all too soon. Then
with heartfelt congratulations and good-byes,
one of the happiest social
gatherings that has assembled on the
beautiful Garden Grove prairies was
a thing of the past, except as it will live
in memory blessing for all
time to come each fortunate participant.

--A
GUEST.
