ARTHUR WALKER had business in Leon one day
last week.

MISS ANNA EDWARDS went to Humeston friday
to visit friends, returning
home Monday.

EMMETT LAFOLLETTE and family, of Akron,
Mo., have moved to town,
occupying the Hill property near the
school house. MR. LAFOLLETTE and
brother, CHARLES, are the proprietors of
the livery and feed barn.

A.M. HAAG left Sunday for a business trip
to Chicago.

G.E. DAVIS had business in Leon Monday.

MRS. P.W. MITCHELL and son, ANCIL, and
sister, MISS FANNIE VAN GILDER,
went to Milo Thursday to visit their
parents, MR. and MRS. VAN GILDER.

GEO. HILL and wife had business in
Lineville Friday.

W.R. CLAMPITT and wife returned from their
visit with relatives in
Kansas.

MRS. A.M. HAAG and children went to the
country Sunday, to visit with
her sister, MRS. H. SCHOONOVER, and
family. They returned home Tuesday.

P.W. MITCHELL and son, ANCIL, returned
from Milo Monday.

MRS. G.W. FRANKLIN returned Wednesday from
her visit with relatives in
Pittsburg, Kansas.

CHAS. WHEELER, wife and baby visited
relatives in Davis City Sunday.
They went from there and visited in Leon
Monday, returning home Monday
evening, accompanied by their niece, MISS
CECIL GRIMES.

GUY MARBLE and a friend from Ottumwa came
Saturday and visited at the
home of his uncle, G.E. DAVIS, returning
home Sunday.

Friday evening the many friends of GROVER
TYE gave him a post card
shower in honor of his l8th birthday.

MR. and MRS. G.R. TURPEN and children, of
Lamoni, visited Saturday and
Sunday at the home of her sister, MRS.
S.A. EDWARDS.

MRS. LATHEM LEEPER visited her sister,
MRS. S.A. EDWARDS, Saturday.

E.B. SAYLOR and wife had business in Leon
Monday between trains. While
there they met their friend, HARRY BAKER,
of Diagonal. MR. BAKER
returned with them for a short visit
before returning home.

A.E. PRICE went to Leon Monday.

S.C. MCKEE had the misfortune to lose a
valuable horse Saturday night. A
veterinary was called from Garden Grove
but could avail nothing.

Last Friday morning the entire community
was greatly shocked by the
announcement that PATIENCE BLAIR, wife of
W.P. BLAIR, was dead. She was
known to be quite sick for a few days but
was reported to be doing
nicely and the friends and community were
wholly unprepared for the
announcement of her death. After the
first shock, a sorrow like a great
tidal wave rushed in and filled every
heart. Tears flowed freely as
friends stood in groups talking in hushed
tones of her who but yesterday
was the very picture of life, health and
happiness. She was a young
woman, a wife and mother, indeed her life
was rich in the present and
still richer in the promise of the future.
She died a Christian. Her
faith, and ours, bids us dry our tears and
look away from the cold mound
in the cemetery, up through the mist into
the pure realm of truth where
God dwells, and see her still alive today
and happy forevermore. The
funeral services were conducted by Rev.
Butterfield, Pastor of the M.E.
Church, Sunday afternoon at the Methodist
Church. A class of girls from
the Christian Bible School, where she had
labored long, sand one son, an
offering of love for her who had been
their teacher. The remains were
laid to rest in the Van Wert Cemetery. "It
fell not because it was
founded upon a rock". See complete

CYRUS WALKER has sold his fine farm of l50
acres in Franklin Township to
L.G. LUCE, of Isabelle, Mo., for something
over $l00 per acre. This is
a choice farm and well worth the money
paid for it.

C.J. PRICE has purchased the CHARLEY
FISHER farm, better known as the
WILLIAM LEE farm, in Franklin Township.
This is a fine l20 acre tract
adjacent to that already owned by MR.
PRICE and, taken together, makes
one of the most desirable homesteads in
the county.

We understand that CHARLEY FISHER has
purchased the old WALKER farm.
