FORMER LAMONI MAN WAS KILLED IN DES MOINES
Thurman Toney, 40, of 1904 East Thirteenth street, in Des Moines died
Tuesday afternoon, June 3, after being pinned between two construction
machines at the Gibbs-Cook Equipment Company, 1314 Walnut street, Des,
Moines, Where he was working. Toney was a former Lamoni resident.
He was working on the engine of an earth-moving machine when he was caught
between the machine and rubber- wheeled roller, operated by Prmo Zonona, 712
East Senaca Avenue, Des Moines.
According to Zonona he had been working on the engine of the roller,
approximately six feet from Toney. Zonona told Polk county officers he
apparently knocked the machine into gear. When he pushed the starter to test
the machine, it leaped forward, crushing Toney.
Besides his wife, Betty, he leaves four children: Lowell Edward, Joyce,
Vicki and Gary. He is also survived by his father, Frank Toney, of Lamoni
and two brothers, Gerald of Carlisle and Jay of Lamoni.
Funeral services were held at the R.L.D.S. church in Lamoni on June 5, with
interment in the Highland Park Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.
