Decatur County Journal
Leon, Iowa
Thursday, February 9, 1911

STEPHEN L. COX, a pioneer settler of Decatur County, residing six miles
southwest of Leon, recently received an interesting letter from his nephew,
FRANK A. BAILEY, a resident of Santa Cruz, California. The parties have not
met for thirty years and Mr. BAILEY could only locate his uncle by invoking
the aid of the post office officials. The letter was written for the purpose
of learning certain facts concerning the settlement of an estate of which
the aforesaid parties were the legal heirs. It seems that nearly fifty
years ago the estate was settled in a certain county in Tennessee and the
administrator, being unable to locate two of the heirs, deposited the amount
due them, something over $3,000 with the county treasurer, where it has
remained ever since. Mr. BAILEY has employed an attorney to recover said
sum which now at 6 per cent amounts to over $12,000. Whether the estate can
be recovered or not is questionable, depending largely on the provisions of
the Tennessee Statutes.
