GRANVILLE LONG had another accident which cost him two more broken ribs and
a shaking up generally. He with his wife and child, and GEORGE GARDNER and
wife and two children were auto riding in Mr. LONG's car last Sunday. At
the time of the accident they were going down the Negley hill southeast of
Decatur. It is a long hill and at the bottom is an abrupt turn. Mr. LONG
knew this, and to avoid making so short a turn he thought he would circle in
the grass a little and make a large swing around the curve. He did so, but
the tall grass and weeds on each side were simply hiding a ditch which he
did not know was there, and in making the circle two wheels went into the
ditch and the car was completely overturned. Almost miraculously all the
children escaped without a scratch, but all the grown folks were more or
less bruised and hurt, and Mr. LONG received two broken ribs, as above
stated. The top of the car was completely demolished, but otherwise the car
was not damaged much. It was a close call for all of them. GRANVILLE
believes the weed cutting law ought to be enforced.
