Biographical and Historical Record of Ringgold and Decatur Counties, Iowa, (Lewis Publishing Company (1887)), pp. 699-700:

"WILLIAM WEST, deceased, was born in Ohio, in 1817, a son of Daniel and Mary West, natives of Virginia. He was reared on a farm, and in 1843 was married, near Columbus, Ohio, to Elizabeth Robinson, a native of Ohio, born in 1822, a daughter of Isaac and Ann (Humes) Robinson, natives of Pennsylvania. Their living children are -- Charles, of Decatur County; Hamilton, of Nebraska; Mrs. Ann M. Pierce, of Iowa; Allen and John, of Nebraska; Elmina, wife of Albert Hubbard, of Nebraska; Jefferson N. and Isaac. The deceased children are -- Daniel, Mary, Martin L. and Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. West came to Decatur County, Iowa, in 1854. They commenced life poor, but were industrious and economical, and at his death Mr. West left an estate of 900 acres. Mrs. West owns 240 acres of this land, eight acres of which are under cultivation. She is an estimable woman, a good manager, and has charge of her farm, the work being done by hired help. In politics Mr. West was a Republican. He held the office of assessor, and also several school offices. He was a member of the Granger's order, an organization in which he was much interested. Mrs. West's post-office address is De Kalb."
