BIOGRAPHY ~ THE HENRY F. and SAMANTHA WARRICK FAMILY

Henry F. Warrick (July 21, 1865 - August 23, 1894), son of Henry (1840 - 1865) and Elizabeth [(Millstead)] Warrick (1840- 1867), was married September 30, 1886 to Samantha Needham (1867-1951), a daughter of George W. and Elizabeth Ellen (Boyers) Needham. To this union four children were born: Bertha, born [July 19] 1887; Ellen, b. [June 13] 1889; William, b. [September 15] 1891) and Forrest, b. [December 22] 1893.

The parents of Henry F. were Henry (1840-1865) and Elizabeth (1840-1867).

Henry F. was born four months after his father passed away and his mother lived only two years more. This left him and his older brother, William, orphans. The parental grandparents of Henry F. were Robert (1809-1865) and Martha Hatfield Warrick (1812-1903), who were among the first pioneers to settle around the Little Tennessee area in the Northeast part of Richland Township, Decatur County, near Doyle Township in Clarke County. They arrived early spring, 1851, when the father of Henry F. would have been eleven years old. Robert served in the Civil War during the years 1862-1863 but was then discharged because of chronic bronchitis.

Henry F. and Samantha settled on a farm in the Sand Creek area northwest of Westerville. Henry succumbed from an old injury on September 28, 1894, leaving his wife widowed at 27 years of age and with four small children, the oldest child was only seven years old. Samantha raised all four to adulthood on the banks of Sand Creek near the North Rock Ford. Their children: Bertha m. Fred Black; Ellen M. David C. Brammer; William Robert m. Bertha May Foland; and Forrest Henry.

Bertha married Fred Black (both deceased). They had six children: Harry deceased; Kathryn (Boulware) of Dixon, Missouri; Jim of Caldwell, Idaho; Edith deceased; William F. of Ceres, California; and Mary (Daniels) of Turlock, California.

Ellen married David C. Brammer, and they spent several of their young married years in North Dakota. They returned to Sand Creek during the latter part of World War I. They had one child, Helen (Limbach), who lives in Raytown, Missouri. Ellen succumbed of a blood clot in 1945.An account of W. R. and May Warrick will be found elsewhere.

Forrest Henry Warrick spent his youth and part of his adult life on Sand Creek. About 1918 he went to North Dakota where he entered the service. Around 1920 he and his mother returned back to her farm on Sand Creek. He left Decatur County about 1938 and finished out his life in and around Stockton, California. In 1969 he was buried in the Warrick cemetery, Section 2, Richland Township, beside his parents.

NOTES: Samantha (Needham) Warrick died in 1951. Henry F. and Samantha (Needham) were interred at Warrock Cemetery, rural Decatur County, Iowa.

Henry's father, Henry Warrick, was born in Claiborne County, Tennessee, on July 17, 1840, the son of Robert and Martha Jane (Hatfield) Warrick, and died March 18, 1865. Henry's mother, Elizabeth (Millstead) Warrick, was born June 28, 1840, the daughter of William and Cinderela Millstead, and died August 27, 1867. Henry and Elizabeth were interred at Warrick Cemetery.

Robert Warrick was born April 26, 1809, Virginia, the son of William and Elizabeth Worrick, and died February 4, 1865 for health problems resulting from his serivce during the Civil War. He married Martha Jane Hatfield in Claiborne County, Tennessee, November 10, 1834. Martha Jane (Hatfield) Warrick, the daughter of Abner and Mary (Yeary) Hatfield, was born in Claiborne County, Tennessee, on January 15, 1812, and died January 18, 1903. They were interred at Warrick Cemetery.

I didn't realize you were descended from Elizabeth Warrick and Ralph Hatfield. I tried some time ago to get a copy of her death certificate. My information says she died on March 26, 1902, Decatur co. Since death certificates have a place on the form for the mother's maiden name, I had high hopes of solving the mystery of Elizabeth Warrick (mother of Robert and Elizabeth). The search by the Iowa Dept of Public Records, Bureau of Vital Records came back empty. They were not able to find it. Would you happen to know any more about her death certificate or is this a dead end (no pun).
I've been trying for years to find information on the ancestry of William Warrick and his wife Elizabeth who died March 04, 1868 in Decatur co.
