BIOGRAPHY ~ The Anthony Vanderpool Family

Page 300, Clarke Pub. Co., Osceola IA. 1981.Anthony Vanderpool (February 3, 1813 - May 19, 1902) was born in Carter County, Tenn. When he was three years old, the family moved to Sheridan Co., Mo., then to Ray Co., at the age of five. He lived there until his mid twenties. He married Easter Stanley [January 1] 1837 and they moved to Decatur Co. To this union 10 children were born. Only three of them lived. They were: John, Oliver and Mary Ann.
After the death of Easter [June 7] 1884, he married Eliza Comstock [September 2] 1884. To this union seven children were born. They were: Oscar, Ollie, Lela, Ernie, Judd, Lloyd and Clate.
Anthony was a member of the first grand jury empaneled in Decatur Co. in 1851. He was also the first minister ordained in the Baptist Church. He helped organize the East Grand River Association at Bedford, Ia. His ministry covered a period of 30 years. He was a soldier in the Blackhawk and the Seminole Wars (Musician, 1st Mo Mounted Volunteers, 1835-1842).
Ernie entered the Ministry in 1916 at the age of 32. At the time of his death in 1966, he was active as a supply pastor. The little Pleasant Valley Country Church was his first pastorate, later serving the Baptist Church in Grand River. He held pastorates at Lockridge, Ia., serving both the church in town and the Round Prarie Country Church. After moving to Mo., he held pastorates at Hale, Oak Grove, Glasgow, Creighton, Cainsville and Bagard. He conducted over 850 funerals and several hundred weddings. His last years were spent in Evangelistic work and he held revivals in many states, being called back for as many as six revivals. Ernie's wife was Jessie Snook.
NOTES: Anthony Vanderpool was interred at Wheelis Cemetery, rural Richland Township, Decatur County, Iowa. He was the son of Wynant and Margaret (Carver) Vanderpool.
Easther (Stanley) Vanderpool was born in Tennessee on July 7, 1821, and died May 7, 1882.
John Vanderpool was born in 1849, and died in 1918. He married Rebecca C. Adams, born in 1854, and died in 1936 They were interred at Grand River Cemetery.
Mary Ann married Jacob Willis and died in Chariton County, Missouri.
Anthony and Easter's seven other children were: two who died in infancy; Infant Daughter interred at Bethel Cemetery, Decatur County; Mallett, born April 18, 1842, and died from disease at the age of 20 years near Springfield, Missouri during the Civil War on August 20, 1862, served with Co. G, 3rd Missouri State Militia Cavalry as a musician; Caroline, born 1846 and interred at Bethel Cemetery, Decatur County; David "Gillium", born October 19, 1846, and died in 1926. Lucinda (Smith) Vanderpool, his wife, was born in Tennessee on March 16, 1847, and died February 18, 1914, Leon, Iowa. They were interred at New Salem Cemetery, Decatur County; and Alfred.
Elizabeth Camelia "Eliza" (Comstock) Vanderpool was born November 25, 1832, Jackson County, Indiana, and died March 20, 1932, interment made at Grand River Cemetery.
Earnest C. "Ernie" Vanderpool was born July 30, 1884, and died November 12, 1966. Jessie (Snook) Vanderpool was born October 13, 1886, and died December 27, 1965. They were interred a t Grand River Cemetery.
Judson I. "Judd" Vanderpool was born in 1887, and died in 1981, interment made at Grand River Cemetery.
Clate Vanderpool was born in 1892, and died in 1985. He married Della Brown (1899- 1969). They were interred at Grand River Cemetery.
