BIOGRAPHY ~ THE HENRY J. STREET FAMILY
Reflections of Grand River, Iowa: 1881 - 1981
Clarke Pub. Co. p. 291. Osceola IA. 1981.Henry was born Jan. 26, 1882, in Delaware Co., Ia., and moved to Decatur Co. as an infant. He attended rural school at Funk Town and helped on the farm. He married Sarah Olive Shields on Feb. 21, 1906. Olive (b. 1889) died Jan. 26, 1941. To this union 5 children were born: Iola Esther (b. May 12, 1907), R. Zell (b. Sept. 27, 1908), Cloyd L. (b. Nov. 12, 1910), Marcia Mae (b. May 2, 1917, and Richard R. (b. Dec. 24, 1933).
They farmed until 1916 when they moved to town. Henry started the first gas powered oil truck in the Grand River area using a hard rubber tired, air cooled Int'l truck. He sold the truck in 1917 and purchased the Tom Johnson Grocery and Dry Goods Store. He ran the store until 1933 and went back into farming.
Iola Esther died July 20, 1907.
R. Zell married June Brennaman Apr. 4, 1929, and had two children: Nicholas Z. (Nick) and Nancy Kathryn. Zell died July 15, 1978 in Oceanside, Ca. Cloyd was married Nov. 17, 1929 to Vera Carson and had one child, Zelda Joyce. He was divorced in May, 1933, and married Isleta F. Wanders on Feb. 20, 1937, and had five children: Lorna, John, Joe, Max and Marcia. Marcia was married to Phillip Letts on Apr. 21, 1935; and they had one son, Robert V. Phillip died in Apr., 1937. Marcia married Charles Covert on Mar. 11, 1939, and they had one child, Joanne.
Richard married Elieen Evans in July, 1954. They had three children: Christy, Deedra, and Douglas. Richard died Oct. 2, 1972.
Henry married Ida Brown on July 28, 1942. They farmed until 1945 when they sold the farm and moved to Grand River. Ida died June 29, 1962. Henry died Nov. 4, 1967. [Interments were made at Grand River Cemetery.]
