CHARLES ALLEN

CHARLES ALLEN, farmer and carpenter, resided on section 23, Richland Township, where he owns 100 acres of land. He was born in Yates County, New York, August 4th, 1826, son of JESSE and SARAH ALLEN, also natives of New York, and of Welsh and German ancestry. When he was nine years of age his father moved to Michigan, and remained there a few years, then removed to Indiana, where he remained one year, and in 1855 came to Decatur County. In 1860 Mr. ALLEN went to Colorado, where he remained four years. He was married in Scotland County, Missouri, in 1849, to CALIFORNIA WILLIAMS, daughter of ANDY and MARY A. WILIAMS, born in Kentucky, August 28th, 1827. Mr. and Mrs. ALLEN have seven children – MARY, wife of SALIAS ACTION, and they have five children – IDA B., CHARLES A., LIZZIE, STELLA and GEORGE A.; ROSE B., married JOHN BOHALL, and they have two children – ANDREW and OLIVE J.; JAMES, married SARILD BOHIL; O. P. A., CHARLES, WILLIAM and SAMUEL L. Mr. ALLEN has held the office of school director and road supervisor. When he started on his present farm he had only 50 cents. He traveled in 1849 on the first railroad ever built in Ohio. His grandfather, JOSEPH ALLEN, was a half brother of the noted ETHAN ALLEN; he served all through the Revolutionary war. Politically Mr. Allen is a Republican. Post Office, Westerville.
