Biography ~ George Adams

Biographical and Historical Record of Ringgold and Decatur Counties, Iowa
(Lewis Publishing Company (1887)), pp.: 683-84:

GEORGE ADAMS, proprietor of the steam grist-mill at Lamoni, is one of the active and enterprising citizens of Decatur County, with whose interests he has been identified since April, 1873. At that time he came to Fayette Township, where he bought a farm containing 170 acres of improved land, located on section 29, which property he still owns, living there till he settled in the city of Lamoni, in April, 1882. Mr. Adams is a native of South Wales, born June 24, 1820, a son of Benjamin and Rachel Adams, both of whom died in their native country. Our subject was reared on a farm till attaining the age of sixteen years, after which he worked in iron and rolling-mills until he came to America, in 1852. Before leaving Wales Mr. Adams was married, in February, 1852, to Miss Mary Ann Knight, born May 30, 1816, daughter of William and Ann Knight. Since coming to America Mr. Adams has spent twenty years in California, where he was engaged in various occupations, principally mining, in which he met with fair success. He is a worthy and respected citizen of Lamoni, and by his industry and strict attention to his business he has made for himself a good home. Besides his residence and mill property he also owns a house and lot in Lamoni, which he rents. In politics he affiliates with the Democratic party, though in local elections he votes for the man whom he considers best fitted for the office. Both he and his wife are members of the Reorganized Church of the Latter-Day Saints.
