"Reflections of Grand River, Iowa 1881-1981"
Clarke Pub. Co. Osceola IA. 1981.

The first of the family to live in the area were Casper and Emeline Moran Spray. They first lived southeast of Grand River before the town was founded. Indians crossed their land going to and from the river. The Indians came to see their first child. Virginia Blanche (Jenny) Spray was their youngest daughter, born on September 9, 1891. At this time, the family was living about two miles northeast of Grand River.

Virginia moved to Tina, Mo., with her parents in the fall of 1903 where she finished her schooling. She was married on February 9, 1910, at Tina to Verne James McClure. They had two children: Eldred, born April 4, 1913, and Ica Winifred, born June 25, 1916. The family moved back to Grand River in February of 1929 to the farm three miles southeast of town where Virginia's parents first kept house. They moved to town in the fall of 1930. Jenny was in charge of the first hot lunch program in the Grand River school. She and Verne ran a grocery and restaurant. Eldred graduated in 1931. His class will be the fifty year class this summer. Winifred graduated in 1934.

Eldred married Hazel Leverne German on December 24, 1933, in Mattie Greely's home. They had five sons: Kreston Kay, born April 1, 1925; Marion Eldred, born January 4, 1939; Jerry Layne and Terry Lynee; and Thomas Wade. Hazel died March 18, 1967. Eldred married Lois Foland December 2, 1967. They live in Grand River.

NOTE: Jenny died in 1968. Eldred died in 1981. Hazel was born in 1911 and died in 1967. Lois was born June 21, 1912, and died January 15, 2002. They were interred at the Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Iowa.
