Dr. Lucius Landis

Dr. Lucius Landis was born in Hopeville, Iowa, March 23, 1867, and died November 5, 1915, at the age of 48 years. He was the son of John F. and Emma Johnson Landis. His mother died when he was only three years old, then he went to make his home with his grandparents, Samuel and Magdalene Landis, remaining with them until his father remarried. He attended public school in Westerville, then took a course at Captial City Commercial College in Des Moines. After this, he went to Grant City, Missouri, where he studied medicine in the office of his uncle, Dr. Johnson, then entered Marian Sims Medical College, at St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated April 25, 1892, with honors and was awarded a gold medal for his superior scholarship.

He then returned to Grand River and engaged in practice with Dr. H. C. Bone. This partnership terminated in 1897, when Dr. Bone moved to Wyoming. Dr. Landis continued in active practice in Grand River until his death.

He was united in marriage to Miss Rose E. De Kalb at De Kalb, Iowa on November 26, 1897, and to them was born one daughter, Emma Margaret. She was twelve years old at the time of the doctor's death.

The funeral services were held at the home in Grand River. He was buried in the Leon Cemetery.
