BIOGRAPHY ~ THE ROY L. HOPKINS FAMILY

Roy Hopkins was born in 1900 in Decatur Co. and was raised up in the Grand River area which is known as Tennessee.

Roy married Nola Marie McDowell on November 2, 1918, and took up farming for their future life. Nola was born February 1, 1899 in Decatur County, the daughter of Harry and Lillie (Bryant) McDowell

Six children were born and raised by this couple: Carl, Don, Harry, Mildred m. Dean Hutcheson, Marjorie m. Marvin Black, Arlene. m. Frank Palmer. A son, Hoyle Donald was born in 1920 and died in 1921.

Roy rented the land he farmed until 1951, when he bought the farm east of Grand River and stayed there until his retirement in 1963. He then moved to Grand River, where they are still living.

Roy and Nola celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1968 and their 62nd in 1980.

Nola says the most important part of her life is her children and her grandchildren.

NOTE: Roy died in 1988. Nola died in 1981. Roy, Nola and Hoyle Donald were interred at Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Iowa.
