E. E. Haskins, [Ernest Elmer] a prominent farmer and stockman of Colfax Towship [Harrison County, Missouri], is of English parentage but has lived in Missouri practically all of his life. He was born in Canada, February 22, 1874, the son of Myron J. and Helen (Simpson) Haskins.

Myron J. Haskins was born in New York State, September 13, 1844 and moved to Canada with his parents. On December 19, 1865 he was married to Helen Simpson, born in Prince Edward Province, Canada, March 16, 1848, and they came to Missouri with their family in 1880 and located on the farm now owned by their son, E. E. Haskins. They were the parents of six children: Mabel C., wife of J. T. Whittig of Caldwell, Idaho; Charles E. of Lamoni, Iowa; Melvin E., living at Skiatook, Oklahoma; Mary H., died January 29, 1892; E. E., the subject of this revies; and Roy E., now living at Lamoni, Iowa. Myron J. Haskins was a republican in politics and was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was highly esteemed by the community where he lived and was elected to serve in various official capacities in the township. He was justice of the peace for a while and was a member of the township board. He was also an elder in the church with which he was identified. He died January 17, 1896. His widow died December 21, 1920. [They were interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa.]

E. E. Haskins was only six years old when is parents came to Harrison County. He attended the district schools and began work for himself when he was twenty-two years old. He operated a part of the estate for his mother for a while, then rented a farm for a few years. In 1916 he bought 120 acres of land and later became heir to some land so that his holdings are now 319 acres, all well improved. Mr. Haskins raises Duroc hogs and has been successful in that work.

On December 13, 1896 [Harrison County, Missouri] Mr. Haskins was married to Mabel Earley who was born in Kewanee, Illinois, February 4, 1881. She was the daughter of William and Sarah (Whitehouse) Earley, both natives of England who left their native country in 1863 after their marriage. They settled first in Illinois but moved to Decatur County, Iowa in 1889. They also lived in this county for a short time. They were the parents of thirteen children, Mrs. Haskins being the twelfth child born to them. Both Mr. and Mrs. Earley are dead and their remains are buried in Andover, Missouri.

To the union of E. E. and Mabel (Earley) Haskins seven children were born: Malcolm, trained for service in World War at Camp Funston, Kansas and later was in training in Detroit when the armistice was signed, now living in Colfax Township; Iva E., married to Garland Wendell of Bethany [MO]; Miriam, wife of Everett Wilcoxson of Colfax Township; Clayton Boyd, died in infancy; and Velton, Crystal, and Arlo, are living at home. Mr. and Mrs. Haskins have one grandchild, Fay Louise Haskins.

E. E. Haskins is a republican and is a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in which he is an elder. He is serving his third term as a justice of the peace and member of the township board. Mr. Haskins is a reliable and substantial citizen and an efficient officer of his township. He is enterprising and progressive in his work and can always be depended upon to further the cause of civic welfare.

NOTE: E.E. Haskins died February 5, 1955, Bethany, Missouri. Mabel "May" (Earley) Haskins died February 28, 1953, Decatur County, Iowa. They were interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa. Of their children: Malcolm was born May 22, 1897, married Gladys Pearl Braby (1898-1989), died October 26, 1973, interred Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence MO; Iva Elizabeth born 1898, died 1967, interred Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline IL; Miriam Madonna born Jan 9, 1901, died November 27, 1992, Lamoni, interred Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni IA; Clayton Boyd born July 8, 1903, died March 19, 1904, interred Andover Cemetery, Andover MO; Velton True born May 25, 1906, died August 23, 1964, interred Cedar Hill Cemetery, Blythedale MO; Crystal Mina born March 1, 1908, married Wilbur Wayne Laswell (1903 - 1984), died December 25, 1996, interred Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni IA; Arlo D. born August 1, 1919, died September 29, 1985, interred Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, IL.

Of E. E.'s siblings: Charles Edgar was born in 1869, married Evalenah Tipton (1870 - 1946), died November 15, 1959, interred Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni IA; Melvin born August 3, 1870, married Mary Elizabeth Harp (1870 - 1941), died November 26, 1961, interred Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni IA; Mary born November 7, 1872, interred Eagleville Masonic Union Cemetery, Eagleville MO.
